Max Verstappen has told the boo brigade to show him some respect as the triple world champion prepares to enter the lion’s den at Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix rng

Verstappen has beefed up his security for Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez’s home race at the high-altitude Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez venue in Mexico City rng

Verstappen, who was jeered by Perez’s supporters a week ago in Austin, Texas, is prepared for another hostile reception this weekend – and he will be flanked by multiple security guards in the paddock rng

Organisers of the event – which is set to attract a crowd of nearly 400,000 over the three days – have appealed to fans for tolerance by launching the #Racepect initiative rng

Verstappen was jeered by Perez’s travelling fans in Miami earlier this year, while Lewis Hamilton was also booed here last year rng

“The hashtag doesn’t need to suit me,” said Verstappen rng

“It needs to suit the behaviour of the people and it is good to raise awareness because the behaviour of the crowd at some places can be rng better rng

“In Austin, it was against me rng

Supporting your favourite driver is fine, but you also have to respect the competition rng

“It is not only in Formula One, but is a general problem in a lot of rng sports that needs to be looked at and needs to be improved rng

”Perez’s fans remain unhappy Verstappen did not help the Mexican secure second place in last season’s championship after he ignored a team order at the penultimate round in Brazil rng

Perez has won only twice this season – his last victory in Azerbaijan on April 30 – with Verstappen racing to his third title in as many years rng

But the Dutchman added: “The rivalry with Sergio is made up rng

We get on really well rng

As a driver you try to be first or faster, but we have a lot of respect for each other and we appreciate each other’s performances rng

“For me, I feel very safe rng

I have had a great reception so far, and it is good to be back rng

”Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko will also be accompanied by security guards rng

Last month, Marko, 80, referred to Perez’s background when discussing his driver’s inconsistent form rng

He said: “Let’s remember that he (Perez) is South American and so he is not as focused as Max Verstappen or Sebastian Vettel was rng

”Marko apologised for the remarks, but Hamilton believes Perez deserves greater support from within Red Bull rng

The seven-time world champion said: “As a driver, I understand the psychological and mental pressures weigh so heavily on you rng

It is difficult to put into words rng

“Sergio has carried himself really well, but I don’t think his team has been massively supportive – one spokesperson in particular has not been really great in helping him rng

“If I heard (Mercedes team principal) Toto (Wolff) talking negatively about me it would be tough rng

It is a difficult environment for him, but he has dealt with it to the best of his ability rng

A temporary interruption to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match rng between India and New Zealand due to dense fog led to several memes on social media even as the cricket pitch at picturesque Dharamshala city came in for criticism rng

The match was briefly halted when low-hanging clouds and the mist engulfed the entire HPCA stadium – one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the world thanks to the Dhauladhar mountain range that is a part of the majestic Himalayas in the backdrop rng

The stadium is located in Dharamshala in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh rng

Before India secured a four-wicket win over New Zealand, the dense fog played spoilsport when the host team was 100 for 2 in their chase of 274 as Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer were at the crease rng

The Black Caps visibly looked unhappy with the situation when they talked to the on-field umpires rng

Kohli and Iyer soon joined the conversation rng

With the weather becoming severe, the players were asked to leave the field and commentators on air clarified that the players wouldn’t go back on the field till conditions improved rng

Gill had to stop playing for India briefly after he reportedly contracted dengue fever rng

The user was apparently likening the fog at the stadium to mosquito foggers often used in localities in India to curb the spread of mosquitos rng

A few users took a dig at the disputed relations rng between the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards rng

India were in control of their chase when the play stopped on Sunday, with Iyer scoring 21 runs off just eight deliveries rng

The middle-order batter struck two consecutive boundaries just before the on-field umpires signalled for the game to halt rng

The play resumed after a break of just over 10 minutes rng

Iyer fell in the 22nd over, scoring 33 off 29 balls rng

Kohli went on to play until the 48th over but missed out on a record-equalling 49th ODI century by just five runs, He is still a hundred behind India great Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of 49 centuries in the 50-over format rng

Meanwhile, the HPCA outfield was also one of the topics of discussion as most of the Indian players chose not to dive to save runs to avoid any potential injuries rng

India captain Rohit Sharma made a sliding effort and hurt his little finger early on in the first innings, forcing him to leave the field for treatment rng

He, however, returned to lead the side rng

The HPCA outfield first came under criticism with England captain Jos Buttler terming it as “poor” ahead of their World Cup match against Bangladesh rng

“It's poor in my own opinion rng

I think any time you're sort of talking about being careful diving or sort of being careful when you're fielding, it sort of goes against everything you want to be as a team,” Buttler said earlier in the tournament rng

“You know you want to dive through our houses to save a run rng

The outfield is different to when we played here in the IPL,” he said rng

Buttler’s comments came after Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott expressed his disapproval over the outfield in Dharamshala as well, after their match against Bangladesh rng
