Liverpool showed their support for Luis Diaz during a comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest football
Quickfire goals from Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez before the break and Mohamed Salah’s second-half effort helped Jurgen Klopp’s side maintain their 100 per cent home record in the Premier League this season football
Jota held aloft Diaz’s number seven shirt after scoring, with the Colombian not featuring in Liverpool’s squad following reports his parents had been kidnapped in his homeland football
Liverpool’s latest victory – their eighth in a row in all competitions at Anfield – was their seventh from 10 league games this campaign and lifted them back to within three points of leaders Tottenham football
Forest rarely threatened and, although they hit the woodwork through Anthony Elanga’s late volley, they were forced to defend in numbers as their winless league run was stretched to six matches football
A minute’s applause was held before kick-off in memory of former England and Manchester United great Sir Bobby Charlton and ex-Everton chairman Bill Kenwright, who both recently died football
Liverpool quickly assumed control, but had only Nunez’s angled volley and Jota’s header, both easily saved by Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner, to show for all their possession football
But that changed with two goals in four first-half minutes, which gave the half-time scoreline a truer reflection of Liverpool’s dominance football
Nunez’s fierce first-time shot was parried by Turner into the path of Jota, who turned home the rebound from eight yards football
In celebration, Jota ran to manager Jurgen Klopp, who handed him Diaz’s shirt to show to the Liverpool fans football
Nunez doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 35th minute with an emphatic near-post finish after Dominik Szoboszlai’s cut-back football
Forest’s backline looked increasingly vulnerable football
Nunez sent an overhead kick narrowly over the crossbar and Turner produced fine saves to deny Ryan Gravenberch and Szoboszlai before the break football
Harvey Elliott went close to a third Liverpool goal soon after stepping off the bench in the second half when his shot was deflected wide by Forest defender Ola Aina football
Salah capitalised on Turner’s misjudgement to put Liverpool 3-0 up in the 77th minute football
Turner was caught out by the bounce of Szoboszlai’s long diagonal punt up field and Salah raced clear to sidefoot home his eighth league goal of the season football
Forest almost pulled one back in the 85th minute when Elanga’s first-time volley following a cross to the far post crashed against the underside of the crossbar football
Liverpool thought they had scored a fourth goal through substitute Cody Gakpo deep in stoppage time, but VAR ruled he had been offside when converting from close range football

Celtic played with pace, purpose and confidence in the first half and both goals came after excellent moves, but they could not keep up the tempo after the break and Alvaro Morata levelled eight minutes into the second half football
Rodgers said: “I thought it was a terrific performance, especially the first 45 minutes – the quality of our football football, the speed in our pressing and in our game, everything we would want football

“But our reaction was superb, everything I wanted in terms of playing together, pressing and the intensity and a really aggressive mentality and then having the courage to play football
“We expected them second half to have a spell in the game but they didn’t create so much football
Their equaliser was fantastic, the early cross and great finish football
“But we kept fighting and showed we can compete with a top-level team football
“It will give us confidence to know we can create opportunities and play the football football we want to play football
The team pressed the game well and passed it for a lot of the game football
”Rodgers, who revealed Reo Hatate had suffered a hamstring injury, which forced him off for Paulo Bernardo inside seven minutes, admitted it was difficult to maintain the intensity for 90 minutes football
Celtic never looked like taking the lead for a third time, despite Atletico going down to 10 men in the 82nd minute football
He added: “There’s a wee bit of tiredness that comes in the last 20 minutes because we are not used to playing at that tempo and against that level of opponent, so naturally a wee bit of fatigue kicks in football
We also had to make an early sub with Reo’s injury football
“It was a really big performance but we couldn’t quite get the result we were looking for football
”Celtic are bottom of the group with one point from three games ahead of trips to Madrid and Lazio, the latter of whom have four points football
We have shown we can perform and we go into the other three trying to get as many points as we can and see where it takes usBrendan RodgersRodgers said: “We wanted to get three points but if you can’t get the win then don’t lose it, and I don’t think we looked like losing football
I can see development for sure football
“We have shown we can perform and we go into the other three trying to get as many points as we can and see where it takes us football
”Atletico manager Diego Simeone admitted his side had struggled to deal with Celtic in the first half football
“As expected, they started really well, as they did in their first two games,” he said football
“We really struggled to contain them early on and they scored with their first attack football
We managed to respond but they quickly scored a fantastic goal football
“The first half didn’t go as we would have liked but I was really pleased with the second half, it was a real Champions League performance football
We showed a lot of personality and responsibility football
”Simeone, who brought on Marcos Llorente and Rodrigo Riquelme at half-time, added: “In the first half we didn’t have the speed the game required, we weren’t up to scratch and they combined well in our half football
“But the subs had a big impact and we had football better solutions in our passing game football
